Removal of Organic Sulfur Pollutants from Gasification Gases at Intermediate Temperature by Means of a Zinc–Nickel-Oxide Sorbent for Integration in Biofuel Production

Production of renewable fuels from gasification is based on catalytic processes. Deep desulfurization required to avoid the poisoning catalysts. It means removal H2S but also organic sulfur species. Conventional cleaning consists a several-step complex approach comprising hydro-treating followed by removal. In this work, single-stage process using zinc and nickel oxide sorbent has been investigated for species present in syngas. Thiophene benzothiophene, two main syngas compounds, were selected as target remove. experimental study comprised analysis effect temperature (250–450 °C), pressure (1–10 bar), space velocity (2000–3500 h−1), tar components (toluene), (H2S), (H2, CO, full CO/CO2/CH4/H2). Operating conditions thiophene benzothiophene determined. Increasing had positive effect, conversion achieved 450 °C, 10 bar 3500 h−1, accompanied simultaneous hydrogen sulfide capture accordance with (RADS) process. Space content little desulfurization. conversions 39% 75% obtained when feeding synthetic mimicking different compositions, spanning air steam-oxygen-blown gasification. Toluene, model component syngas, did not strongly affect benzothiophene. inhibited their conversion, falling, respectively, 2% 69% 350 °C 30% 80% 400 under blends.
